Abstract

The dichotomy between targeted therapies and traditional chemotherapy in oncology presents a critical challenge in maximizing patient outcomes. This study undertakes a comparative analysis of various targeted therapeutic strategies, including monoclonal antibodies, small molecule inhibitors, and immunotherapies, against conventional chemotherapeutics. Utilizing a systematic review methodology, we synthesized data from recent clinical trials and meta-analyses. Our findings reveal that while targeted therapies demonstrate superior specificity and reduced toxicity in select cancer types, traditional chemotherapeutics maintain broader applicability across diverse malignancies. These insights underscore the necessity for a tailored approach in oncology, advocating for the integration of targeted therapies into existing treatment paradigms to enhance efficacy. The implications of these findings extend to clinical practice, suggesting a shift towards personalized medicine in the management of cancer.
