Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
- Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
Articles
Journal of Legal Studies publishes high-quality, peer-reviewed research advancing the understanding of law, legal systems, and governance. The journal welcomes doctrinal analyses, comparative legal studies, policy-oriented research, and practical case reviews that contribute to the global dialogue on law and justice.
Doctrinal Articles – Original research focusing on legal interpretation, judicial reasoning, and the development of statutory and case law. Submissions should analyze specific areas of law, providing conceptual clarity, jurisprudential critique, or legislative implications.
Theoretical Articles – Papers that explore legal philosophy, jurisprudence, or analytical frameworks that shape modern legal thought. These works should critically engage with normative theories, legal principles, and interdisciplinary intersections with ethics, politics, or economics.
Review Articles – Comprehensive or systematic reviews synthesizing the latest developments in law and legal scholarship. These articles highlight emerging legal doctrines, comparative trends, and research gaps, providing direction for scholars and policymakers.
Case Analyses – In-depth discussions of landmark judicial decisions or complex legal disputes. Case analyses should outline the facts, procedural history, arguments, judicial reasoning, and broader implications for legal practice and theory.
