Judicial Impacts on Social Equity: An Empirical Case Study of Legislative Discretion in Sentencing Practices

The interaction between judicial discretion and social equity remains a critical issue within contemporary legal studies. This article offers an empirical analysis of sentencing practices across different jurisdictions, focusing on how legislative frameworks influence judicial decision-making. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, we analyzed quantitative data from court records over five years alongside qualitative interviews with key stakeholders. Our findings indicate significant disparities in sentencing outcomes tied to legislative variations, highlighting the influence of contextual factors such as socioeconomic status and race. This research addresses a notable gap in legal scholarship regarding the intersection of law and social justice, contributing valuable insights for policymakers and legal practitioners.
