Sociolinguistic Dynamics of Arabic-English Code-Switching

This paper investigates the sociolinguistic dynamics of code-switching between Arabic and English among Middle Eastern students in western universities. The research focuses on factors contributing to code-switching, such as identity expressions, educational contexts, and social interactions. By conducting interviews and surveys with students from universities in the US and UK, the study sheds light on how code-switching serves as a tool for negotiating identity and navigating cross-cultural environments. Furthermore, the paper discusses the implications of these dynamics for language policy and academic support services. Recommendations include encouraging more inclusive linguistic environments in academic settings.
