Addressing the Declining Engagement in STEM Education: An Empirical Approach to Revitalizing Student Interest through Gamification Strategies

The declining engagement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education poses a significant challenge for educators and policymakers, particularly in light of the accelerating demand for STEM professionals. This study investigates the efficacy of gamification as a pedagogical tool aimed at enhancing student motivation and participation in STEM subjects. Employing a mixed-methods design, we collected quantitative data through pre- and post-intervention surveys measuring student engagement and qualitative insights from focus groups discussing their educational experiences. Our findings reveal a statistically significant increase in student engagement levels, with an 18% improvement in participation rates and a notable decline in dropout intentions. The qualitative analysis highlights the transformative potential of gamification in fostering a deep-seated enthusiasm for STEM fields. This article contributes to the discourse on effective educational strategies, offering evidence-based recommendations for integrating gamified approaches in STEM curricula.
