Abstract

This study investigates the influence of culturally responsive teaching practices on student engagement levels in urban secondary schools. Employing a mixed-methods approach, data was collected via observations, surveys, and academic performance metrics from three diverse urban schools. The quantitative analysis revealed that classrooms integrating culturally responsive strategies saw a 25% increase in student engagement scores compared to traditional methods. Qualitative insights provided by student and teacher interviews further substantiated the quantitative findings, revealing an enhanced sense of belonging and motivation among students. This research contributes to the ongoing discourse around equity in education, showcasing the necessity of adapting pedagogical frameworks to meet the diverse cultural backgrounds of students in contemporary classrooms, thereby laying groundwork for future studies in the area.
